About GFWC

GFWC Suburbia Women’s Club is an organization of 20 women dedicated to community service. It is affiliated with the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, headquartered in Washington, D.C. and the Tennessee Federation of Women’s Clubs. These service oriented national and state organizations were formed in the nineteenth century and have been responsible for the formation of over 75% of the nation’s libraries, the enactment of child labor laws and for the formation of the Department of Education.

On a local level, GFWC Suburbia Women’s Club members work together to support the local community in a similar manner. Suburbia has been sponsoring the Lenoir City Arts and Crafts festival since its inception in 1962. The event is the principal source of income for its many community and charitable projects. Over the past four decades, Festival proceeds totaling more than $350,000 have been returned to the community in support of children and families, education, literacy, the arts, the elderly, the disabled and public affairs.
